Spring Time Gloom

I had planned to get this out on Sunday but life and all got in the way.  Tuesday is actually my best day to post things so I will look at keeping my blog updated then.

Its spring in New Zealand and although its been a few weeks of lovely weather its also very changeable which has meant a lot of gloomy days that were terrible for painting.  I have increased the artificial light where I paint so will try on Thursday to do some work.

A little more details on both paintings I have on the go, seems to take forever these days to produce any work hehe.

Hopefully as the sunlight days return my painting efforts will increase.

Detailing & Discovery

A while ago with my computer crashing I lost a “small” amount of my book. Despite backing it up to 3 cloud based sites I some how managed to have it die exactly at the wrong time. On the weekends I discovered a word file with 50102 words I had lost… not as small as the 4-5k I had thought i was missing.

Nothing like adding 50k to your book to motivate you to write! (book is now just a few hundred shy of 120k) and I hope to have the entire first write done by the end of September ready for edits!

Big shout out to the lovely @Gypsy_Syl on twitter for sparking my search (go listen to the Battlebards podcast she takes part in if you haven’t already, its really great fun!)

http://battlebards.libsyn.com/ is the weblink for those without twitter.

Painting wise I began working on the details of the painting now, with the left side of the work nearing finish.

As well as doing my own painting my twins finished their own first works, very proud of how they followed instructions and put their own spin on things. Very good work for 4.5yo kids in my bias opinion 😀

Gabs & Orlando’s paintings:

Taking Shape

In between the craziness of life I manage to progress my painting a little. I was out most of the weekend with family things so the normal block of art time I have disappeared and I also re-discovered the fun of Diablo III which didn’t help at all!

I picked up a new black paint so my limited palette is now complete…well I could do with a sap green and a raw sienna but I can make do.

WiP Continues!

I have been attempting to increase the amount of painting time I get, cramming in 20 min here and there in an effort to improve my work and get into a good painting habit.

Long ago with writing during #NanoWrimo I realized that time didn’t make itself free, you have to cram in whatever you really want to do and push out a space for it, so its not surprising that the same is true of art.

Aside from teaching my kids a little more about painting (or as much as I know about the basics!) I managed to progress my current work.

Next month I’m going to challenge myself to a paint a picture each day so that should be interesting.

Floodland and Blues

I finished a larger bit of work, inspired by the fact that the entire area I live in had enough rain over the weekend to flood the rivers and turn the low lying areas back into the swampland they came from.

Still going with the ink on canvas although I did splash into green and reds to capture the feel I was going for.

And I continued onward in the blue and whites:

Blue and White, and a Little Charcoal

I had originally planned to do a month of blue ink only paintings but life occurred so its a fair way through before I could start on this project. I may continue onto next month but for now I am doing acrylic sketches in ink using only blue ink and white acrylic paint.

So far its been a lot of fun!

Aside from the ink work I have continued on my landscape sketch:20170715_224257.jpg

Game wise I’m still happy in EQ2, long may that last 😀

Back on to Blog

Hey all, it has been an unexpected and extended break from blogging so apologies for those following. Real life caught me and combined with winter blues my energy to write dissipated.

On my break I finished off the swampland and did a couple of quick ink paintings. With the darkness here its really hard to get sufficient light to do the detailing I want on a full painting so I’m going to spend the time working on other things. I ran out of canvas so started doing a charcoal sketch too.

Gaming wise I am playing Everquest on the new timelocked server and going to split my limited game time between that and the new timelocked Everquest2 server that is opening soon.

My book is mid edits, the editor making good progress so that is positive for book 1. Book 2 is a little less great, despite backing up all the time to the web when my computer crashed I managed to lose a chunk of work, its not major just a pain. So instead of trying to just re-write that I am using it as motivation to re-write the book (which is what I do once I’ve finished the first write.)

Anyway some bits of work:

Swampland finished.
